Dreamland Review (Frosted Fairground) 2016/2017

On Monday 2nd of January, we got invited to head back down to Dreamland Margate to cover the park, roller disco and the frosted fairground event! Check out what we think below...

Dreamland Margate is situated in Margate, Kent and originally opened in 1880. The park being one of the oldest in the UK, has had many closures and changes over it's time to where it is now today. Dreamland reopened back to the public in June 2015, where they have many phases to get the park back up and running like it use to be. The park is known for it's headline wooden coaster, Scenic Railway, and other vintage rides and attractions which have been re-imagined.

We visited on the last day of the season, which was during the Frosted Fairground event. When we first arrived to the park, it already had a fair number of guests for a seaside park. Some rides were having difficulty opening on time, but we assumed this was down to the cold temperature and the strong winds.

The Scenic Railway is officially the oldest coaster in the UK, originally opening in 1920. This coaster has offered many thrills over the years and even to this day is still a top attraction for it's age and type of coaster. Getting to experience it in the day and night, you get a great mixture of views of the park and surrounding areas.

Our other favourite attraction in Dreamland was the dodgems! With the retro themed 70's cars, the speed they reach and the Frosted Fairground music playing around the park, it was a super fun experience which was enjoyed multiple times throughout the day!

Other attractions such as Kiss Me Quick, Phantom Express, Caterpillar Coaster and Monotopia were very much enjoyed also. Sadly, the new waltzers & Helter Skelter were not open on the day of our visit.

The Frosted Fairground event itself was mainly aimed at children and young families and had a bunch of crazy characters walking around the park, interacting with guests in all sorts of strange ways. There was plenty of photo opportunities in the park but by the time we arrived, Santa already had gone back to the north pole! The themeing was super impressive with the neon lights, the display stands, the Christmas tree and the snow machine. All of this together really added to the Frosted Fairground event and made the park more festive!

We also got to experience Roller Disco. This retro themed roller disco was a great indoor experience which can be enjoyed by the whole family, especially on a cold day! Getting to dance and skate to a mixture of old classics and other upbeat songs, can keep you occupied for hours. From the skates to the lighting, the whole atmosphere was very warm and welcoming.

Overall, even in the winter time, Dreamland Margate was an amazing trip for our team and we highly recommend you visit, regardless of the weather! We can't wait for our next visit and to ride The Scenic Railway again!

The park reopens on the 1st of April, 2017 with Roller Disco still open daily! All tickets can be purchased from the official website found HERE.
