COMPLETE: Fantasy Island | Summer 2019 Review

Updated: Aug 10, 2019

Fantasy Island is a amusement Park based in Skegness which hosts 30 rides and attractions. Located near the sea front, Fantasy Island offers more than just its rides with accommodation, a market, an extensive arcade and seasonal events for a complete package of thrills for the whole family. 2019 comes with exciting changes for Fantasy Island which keeps the park exciting and enticing for regular visitors whilst attracting newer visitors also.

Ice Mountain

New for 2019, the park have brought in Ice Mountain which is popularly known from Winter Wonderland in London at Christmas. This indoor coaster takes you on an artic adventure featuring lasers, lights and themed set pieces as you spin your way around! There is no confirmation on how long Ice Mountain will be staying at the park, with it expecting to tour back to Winter Wonderland later in the year.

Earlier this season, Fantasy Island waved goodbye to its much loved top scan, The Beast. Fear not, the park have added an exciting modern thrill machine called Air Maxx 360 which has several dimensions of spin.

Rhombus Rocket has been in the park since 1995 however, over the closed season the park have given it some love with a new colour scheme and refurbished trains. This is one of the better powered coasters we've experienced.

Tree Top Climb is the new high ropes course which has been nestled into the arcade inside the pyramid. Secured with a harness, you come across various crossing with freedom to take any route you wish. This clever addition utilises unused space and is not an upcharge on your wristbands.

For this season, Fantasy Island have expanded their accommodation offering with luxury lodges next to the park. These are additional to the existing static caravans they have, which are all meters away from the park itself. Fantasy Island offer exciting packages during your stay when booking accommodation, which can include wristbands for guests who stay with them.

Fantasy Island has one of the best arcades in the UK, which always includes the latest arcade games and offerings year round. The latest addition is known as The Bandit, the 1st in the UK! A compact shooting ride where two to four players hop aboard a mine cart and shoot targets on interactive screens and surprise physical sets. The twist to this attraction is the moving mine cart on a circular track which makes this attraction unique, immersive and interactive.

Events are a huge part of Fantasy Island with seasonal specials being added alongside the rest of the park. Over this summer, they have launched two different firework events every Wednesday & Saturday. The Wednesday experience is known as a traditional fairground firework display, which you may be familiar with if you've visited previously. However, new for 2019, they have a new immersive experience which takes place at sunset. During our trip, we got to experience the immersive Island Beach event and display. The event includes a large outdoor cinema screen that shows a different popular movie every Saturday at select times during the day. The park have created a Jamaican beach environment complete with a sand, music, food stools and most importantly, deck chairs. After sunset, which during our visit started at 10pm, the spectacular display took place.

The display features the large outdoor screen which shows a variety of short movie clips and visuals throughout the show. Lasers and lights were used to light up the building and surrounding area in time with the soundtrack. Additional to all this, fire plays a big part of the experience along with the main firework display, which all lasts around 10 minutes.

We throughly enjoyed the display which was a perfect ending to a day at Fantasy Island.

The next thrilling yet chilling event to come is the next incarnation of the Fear Island event, Fear Island III. The event promises to be bigger than ever which has 4 brand new scare mazes along with other shows and attractions.

Overall, the park has a great selection of rides and entertainment for a fun thrilled day. The park embraces the sea side atmosphere with its events and offerings within its complex. We recommend for new and returning guests to visit Fantasy Island this summer for the immersive firework display or this Halloween for Fear Island!

We want to say thank you to Fantasy Island for for inviting us to the park and to all the staff we met who made our trip!
