COMPLETE: The Milky Way Adventure Park | 2019 Review

Updated: Aug 11, 2019

On a not so sunny day in June, we made our way to visit The Milky Way Adventure Park which is based in North Devon, South West England. A family adventure park which hosts a selection of family based rides, attractions and shows that are indoors & outdoors. This allows for a perfect day out whatever the weather and this is a great place to visit at all ages however, targeted more towards the younger audience.

Ziggy's Blast Quest

New for 2019 was Ziggy's Blast Quest, which is a rethemed coaster that was previously known as Clone Zone. You get to board your own Cyber Scooter and wizz into space to save the galaxy from meteors and astroids crashing down to earth. Using the laser powered blasteroid orb blasters, you are recruited to join the Blast Force as Earth's last defense along with Ziggy!

The ride experience has changed a fair amount from Clone Zone. The ride has been fully rethemed with new orb blasters to the Cyber Scooters / ride vehicle, which allows you to take part in a scoring based game during your ride experience. These are shaped as an orb to keep a child friendly theme to the ride and not use a gun shape with is clever and adaptive in current times.

Along with this, the ride experience has been slowed down by around 30-40 seconds from it's previous form. This allows you to enjoy a much longer experience and allows you to shoot the meteors around the ride experience. Ziggy's Blast Quest uses UV themeing throughout the adventure to bring out bright colours and 3D effects from the space themed ride.

On Ride Video

The Milky Way team were very kind to show us around the ride with the lights on and share a lot more infomation based on the ride. From walking around the ride with the lights on, to turning the lights off and experiencing the ride is very different. The UV themeing really brings out an out of this world experience which younger and older audiences will enjoy very much!

Overall, Ziggy's Blast Quest is a great new investment for the adventure park in 2019 and is already a massive hit with families. From the clever designing of the blasters, to the child friendly out of this world alien theme, this ride has all the grounds covered for an intergalatic experience like no other.

Rides & Attractions

Cosmic Typhoon

The rest of the park is littered with fun filled family attractions for all ages outside of Ziggy's Blast Quest. The two outside roller coasters they have are Cosmic Caterpillar & Cosmic Typhoon. Cosmic Caterpillar is known as a wacky worm with a very typical layout whilst Cosmic Typhoon is a 35ft family thrill experience for guests 1.2m or above!

Other fun attractions are the droid destroyer dodgems, which were our personal favourite. Including some great songs on a classic version of the dodgems that can changed and be alterted depending on the audience for the ride. A slow & tame version of the bumper cars can be selected by the operator to allow the younger audience to enjoy. Otherwise, they can select a fast option for thrill seekers and for the older audience to enjoy, with some of the fastest dodgems we have seen! All of this accompanied by a great light & sound package was incredible.

Shows

The park has a packed day filled with shows to keep the whole family entertained. We were lucky enough to experience The Bird of Prey show indoors (due to the weather). This can be hosted outside when the weather is better for a different version of the show. Regardless of this, the show featured many birds of prey flying through the audience in close proximity, which was something you don't get to experience everyday.

If you are after something a bit more thrilling and firey, Merlin hosts a juggling wizardry show 6 days a week during the main season. Also seen on Britain's Got Talent Semi Final, expect to see magic, illusions and juggling thrown together for a firm family favourite show!

Final Thoughts

Our overall thoughts of this family adventure park made us understand how they are so successful with the family market. As a family ran amusement park, they have used local knowledge and experience to create a space themed experience for all guests at any ages to enjoy. Ziggy's Blast Quest is a great highlight and worth visiting for alone here at The Milky Way, with all the other attractions and rides to keep you busy during your day.

Open throughout most of the year, you can experience the park from as little as £12.95 per person, with guests under 2 getting to experience the park much cheaper.

We would like to say thank you to Larry who shared all of this infomation regarding the park with us at The Milky Way! We would recommend to visit during 2019 to ride Ziggy's Blast Quest and save the world!
