Fire at Pleasure Island, Cleethorpes

News has broke of a large fire occurring at Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes.

Picture taken from the video which was posted over social media.

The fire was said to break out in a large dome building housing a family show, located near to the entrance to the park. Fire fighters were called to the scene at 9:17PM last night (6th January), having to use five sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a hay dray to extinguish the fire. The origins of the fire are described to be from a cupboard in a wooden structure, which then spread to the plastic seating of the Masai Warrior Show seating area. It is currently unsure what level of damage has been caused to the building and its structure.

The Cleethorpes based theme park has struggled in recent years, since the park changed hands from Flamingo Land ownership in 2010 to new owner Melanie Wood. It finally announced its closure at the end of the 2016 season, Mrs Wood saying: "It is with deep sadness that I am informing you I have made the very difficult decision to close Pleasure Island Theme Park at the end of this season."

"For the past seven seasons we, as a team, have tried very hard indeed to keep the business going but unfortunately there have been too many hurdles."

The park housed a number of thrill and family rides, including a TopSpin and a Vekoma boomerang coaster. All the rides are expected to be sold and relocated to other parks in the country and overseas parks.

No rides were damaged in the fire, although we are still awaiting comments from the park managers.
