New footage released showing the construction of the wooden rollercoaster
Just a month since opening to the public on 24th March, Wicker Man is now the favourite ride of thrill-seekers at Alton Towers Resort.
The wooden rollercoaster, the first new ride of its kind in the UK for 21 years, combines a thrilling adrenalin ride with special effects and fire, bringing to life the ‘legend of the Wicker Man’. According to the legend, the wicker effigy has been built by ‘the Beornen’, a fictional group living in the woods nearby who believe that by riding through the burning Wicker Man they can achieve eternal happiness.
More than 100,000 guests at the park have so far ‘been chosen’ to ride the wooden rollercoaster, with two thirds rating the ride ’10 out of 10’ in a survey conducted by the theme park. The average score for Wicker Man was 9.1 out of 10, meaning that so far this season it’s scored higher than Alton Towers’ iconic steel coasters The Smiler (8.9), Oblivion (8.8) and Nemesis (8.5).
Not only that, guests have shared their love of #WickerManRide on social media over 8,000 times. And the ride has appeared in 163 articles in newspapers, magazines and websites. (Thrill Nation Wicker Man Review)
To celebrate the first month of operation, Alton Towers has released new video footage of the ride being constructed. Filmed over 18 months, the footage shows the build from ‘breaking ground’ in November 2016 to the public opening one month ago
