Fire Hazard Games - Citydash Xmas - Review 2017

Fire Hazard Games present Citydash, a live-action scavenger hunt crossed with hide-and-seek, played in more than a dozen cities around the world. Work together to uncover secrets, crack cryptic clues, and outwit or outrun patrols in this high-energy immersive experience.

When we found out about Citydash, we had to experience it, and we're so glad we did. The Christmas version around the streets of London in December was fantastic fun, read on to find out about our experience and why we can't wait to try another!

Prior to the game we were e-mailed all the details needed, and had to select our team and individual nicknames. The meeting point for our game was a bar in the Marylebone area where we were given everything we needed for the game. Each player has to wear a unique code on their front and back which must be visible at all times, this is for the hide-and-seek aspect of the game. We were given a purpose made map of the game area split into letter/number coordinates which the clues will relate to. The gameplay also relies on a mobile phone in each team which is used for clues, entering codes & the live scoreboard. What's even better is the mobile aspect is live as well with more locations/clues added throughout, as well as hidden updates for bonus points.

The friendly and enthusiastic event organisers made sure everyone was fully prepared, and gave an entertaining backstory to the game we were about to play. In short, bad Santa's had stolen presents and hid them around London, and we need to find them (the gift tags with codes) to save Christmas. The problem, the bad Santa's were still in the area patrolling the streets, and if they spotted us, they would chase after us, and if they get the code from a team member, the team would be deducted a hefty amount of points. With everyone briefed and outside the pub, the game started.

The initial rush and planning to which clue and area to go to first was pretty chaotic, before someone else gets to it, but really got us in the competitive mood for the rest of the 90 minute game. We were chased by the Santa's several times, and it's scarier than you think with them sprinting full speed towards you, we even had to hide behind a bin in an alley way to not be caught. We did choose the more difficult level of game where the scores are more competitive, and more to lose if you are caught by Santa's who try harder to catch you... there is the fun version available for an easier and less tiring game and with a separate score-board. There was so much going on in the game, it was brilliant, at one point we found an elf who gave us a bonus code, and also a carrot which we had no clue what to do with it. We later spotted a reindeer who we chased after and worked out we needed to give the carrot to them in return for another code. We also had to make sure we were back at the meeting point before the game ended to gain the last lot of bonus points, which added more elements of competitiveness and panic!

We'd like to thank Citydash for having us, and based on our experience we cannot recommend their games enough and definitely look forwards to trying a new one in the future.
