On Thursday October 4th, we were kindly invited down by Thorpe Park Resort for the annual fright night media event. This year, Thorpe had a lot to showcase with several new attractions added to the lineup.
The event started at half 6 where we crossed the bridge into the park. We were immediately introduced to the cast of Amity High, which will be the roaming actors around the Amity area. Included in the cast were American high school girls, American football players, jocks and prom queen's. These characters were interactive and seriously impressive and we can't wait to see how they engage with visitors during the event.
Big Top Showtime are the other cluster of actors which have set up residency in the dome, after they tore down their tent and went rogue. The cast were energetic, creepy and definitely scary! With their new show hosted into the dome, it was great to hear the big top soundtrack play once again as they caused chaos to anybody walking by.
The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare
The Walking Dead Living Nightmare maze has come back after being open during may half term and some of the summer. This hasn't changed much inside however the begining has a new script and the ending is slightly different. It's great to see that changes still happen to the attraction and it's still a solid maze in this year's lineup!
Scare: 7/10 - Themeing & Storyline: 7/10 - Actors: 7/10 - Overall: 21/30
Platform 15
Platform 15 is also back in the lineup for 2018 which remains physically unchanged from previous years. The only change noted was a different storyline at the start which was a nice difference and we thought, better than previous years. The team working on it attraction really make it strong with a lot to compete with from all the new attractions!
Scare: 7/10 - Themeing & Storyline: 9/10 - Actors: 7/10 - Overall: 23/30
SAW Alive
SAW Alive returns after being open in the summer and being the oldest maze in this year's lineup. As expected, nothing has changed inside the maze however, the actors were incredible. The energy levels from the cast were the strongest of the whole night and we're glad that this hasn't fallen to be the weakest maze this year.
Scare: 6/10 - Themeing & Storyline: 7/10 - Actors: 8/10 - Overall: 21/30
Vulcan Peak
Vulcan Peak is brand new for 2018 and is based in the I'm a Celebrity building. This is a hooded maze and we didn't really know what to expect with previous hooded mazes not going down too well at the resort. The theme worked well with what space they had and it was great to see a pre-show was added to this attraction. Sadly, it seemed very limited on actors and the scares weren't at all scary. Definitely the weakest maze this year however, it's great to see Thorpe Park trying to create an original theme and hopefully, we will see this stronger as the event goes on!
Scare: 4/10 - Themeing & Storyline: 5/10 - Actors: 3/10 - Overall: 12/30
Dead Creek Woods
Brand new for 2018 and reutilises the same pathway as Zombie Hunt, from the summer. An infected woodland surrounded by darkness and creatures coming from all angles. The actors and scares were top quality, with them using the woodland spaces well to get the best scares possible. Our favourite part of this attraction is the eerie vibe you get when walking through, especially in the darkness!
Scare: 6/10 - Themeing & Storyline: 6/10 - Actors: 6/10 - Overall: 18/30
The Walking Dead: Do or Die
Sanctum on steroids. This heavily upgraded maze features a new storyline, layout and one big ol' bus! This was the highlight of our evening and contained some big scares using the mixture of the indoor and outdoor sections. The actors played their roles perfectly to have the storyline flow from start to finish, whilst still managing to make you scream. We highly recommend to do this during the nightime to get the full hellish atmosphere.
Scare: 7/10 - Themeing & Storyline: 7/10 - Actors: 9/10 - Overall: 23/30
Containment
Containment has also remained physically unchanged for the 2018 season. As always, the codes have changed and it definitely seems to be harder to solve the puzzles. The actors were very distracting when trying to solve the puzzles and really ramped up the fear to make sure you didn't escape.
Overall, the media night was a success and the event is hopefully going to be really well received this Halloween. There was so much to do, we were unable to complete the whole lineup on our evening and missed out on Screamplexx 4D cinema and Blair Witch due to it being the biggest lineup to date. There is plenty to do for everyone and the amount of mazes, attractions and actors in the park really make for a frightening night! With Fanta's Twisted Carnival coming soon and the event just beginning, we can't wait to see the event and atmosphere grow as the event progresses.
