On a scorching hot Saturday at the start of the summer, we were invited down by the Go Ape team at Chessington, to tackle the most thrilling tree top adventure in the UK. Go Ape is the UK's number one forest adventure, they launched just outside the theme park at Chessington World of Adventure in 2016.
They are located in the explorer car park and is pretty hard to miss if you visit the theme park. Go Ape at Chessington is a complete separate attraction to the theme park and you can choose to just come and do Go Ape. The benefits of it being located next to the theme park and being partnered with Merlin Entertainments means, you get exclusive discount on your adventure if your a annual pass holders, or if you purchase a ticket to the theme park!
We were lucky enough to check out the Tree Top Adventure on our visit however, please note their is another course suitable for a younger audience called Tree Top Junior. You can find more about this by checking out our other article by clicking HERE!
We arrived at the Go Ape Cabin and started our check in process which is standard to any Go Ape location you visit. After reading a health and safety guide and signing permission that we was about to take part in a dangerous high risk activity, we were able to proceed. We had an instructor come and fit a harness to us, before walking us over to the training area.
The training area is known as site 1. This is where the Go Ape instructor teaches you how to use your equipment and to get about the course safely. This is where they can also check you are able to safety go around the course. After this, we were left on our own accord to experience the other 4 sites. Each site ranges in difficulty and obstacles, and allows guests to be spread apart from each other to stop delays up in the course.
What was different with this Go Ape course, is they have a central hub. This central hub is where you have to check in before heading up to each of the sites. This is where you can speak to an instructor if you needed help, get attached to the next course or get your harness readjusted if needed. This was placed quite central and was a really clever implemented idea.
The course itself included some really unique obstacles. This included a skateboard zipline,
a bird net cage and the signature, 4 man zip wire. The obstacles as a whole were incredible as they all varied in length and skill. This made them all fun and enjoyable whilst still being a challenge. However, what we did realise was the first course was incredibly difficult in our opinion compared to the last few sites. Yet, we still enjoyed every part of it and think this could of been designed with a clever idea in mind.
Each obstacle site was easy to navigate giving you at points, choices to make in which difficulty you wanted the next obstacle to be. This allows the thrill seekers to be challenged whilst those who may be exhausted or want an easier option, to have as a fall back option.
This course is perfect for a family with older children who are looking for something different to do. Taking around 2-3 hours to complete the course, it definitely is worth every penny. At the end, you can even take a photo of a large gorilla face with your certificate which is a perfect way to remember your day at Go Ape Chessington! We highly recommend you visit during this summer whilst the weather is perfect for outdoor activities. You can book through the Go Ape website or Chessington World Of Adventures website found below.
