On Saturday 9th March 2019, we were invited down to Chessington World of Adventures Resort to be fortunate enough to be the first group to experience Room on the Broom - A Magical Journey attraction, which is new for 2019!
Room on the Broom is a childrens picture book by Julia Donaldson, which tells a story of a witch who invites a collection of animals to join her on her broom and adventure. Through the adventure, the witch is joined by a cat, dog & frog whilst also encountering terrifying creatures such as the dragon!
Room on the Broom - A Magical Adventure is a walkthrough attraction which is new for 2019, which invites explorers to join her through her story through a series of rooms & scenes, which brings the book to life.
This attraction is located at the front of the lodge entrance of the park and situated in the building as replacement of the previous attraction, Hocus Pocus Hall. A new photo opportunity and queue line has been created to accomdate the new attraction in anticaption.
From start to finish, Room on the Broom - A Magical Journey takes you through each scene of the well known story and brings the words to life using narration, smells, animatronics, effects and interactiveness! Each room consists of the narration of the character and scene of the book whilst incorporating interactiveness required from the younger audience and adults, to successfully pass through.
The attraction begins with an introduction of the adventure you are about to embark on with the witch and friends. Using a mixture of projections and special effects from the start, to create some truely incredible storytelling, to immerse you into the experience.
Our favourite part of this attraction has to be the interactiveness for the younger audience which is shown in each room. From jumping up & down to get the witch's hat, to splatting the bugs to find witch's wand, you are invited each step of the way to be involved and engaged through the story in this truely immersive story brought to life.
With the launch of Room on the Broom in 2019 at Chessington, they have also the Witch walking around the park, along with a photo opportunity to meet the witch. A small 10-15 minute show has also been introduced next to the attraction which allows the younger audience to engage in the story over there too!
Chessington World of Adventures Resort have The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure, which is another one of Julia Donaldson's stories. Using similair story telling techniques through the ride, which can be seen and compared to during both experiences.
Overall, the retheme of the previous attraction of Hocus Pocus Hall to the transformation of Room on the Broom -A Magical Adventure has been stunning. We believe Chessington will have huge success throughout the year with this new attraction and are looking forward to the next adventure they introduce to us.
