The VOID is a full sensory, immersive experience, with your friends & family walking around inside the action with you. It's location-based entertainment - that means you visit one of their locations - and you walk into real-time hyper reality that combines interactive sets, real-time effects and amazing technology.
We visited the London location on Sunday 13th May to experience the current set up they have, Star Wars: Secrets Of The Empire!
Our mission was at a galaxy, far, far away that needed our help. In our teams, we would be transported into a brand new hyper-reality experience from Lucasfilms, ILMxLAB and The VOID. Disguised as Stormtroopers, we grabbed our blasters, solved puzzles and defeated giant lava monsters to fulfill our task before coming back to the real world!
When arriving at The VOID, we signed in at the desk before we were giving our safety briefing which was included with a storyline. This told us about our objective on our journey to the empire. After this, we moved forward to put on our VR technology. This included our VR headsets with a helmet and a backpack / bodysuit kind of equipment. All of this together allowed you to transport into hyper-reality and move around in the experience - you can even see your hand movements!
Combining this with effects such as heat, vibrations and uneven surfaces, makes the
experience feel so complete and didn't lose it's touch when you're trying to immerse yourself in another galaxy. The VR was something out-of-this world and was near enough flawless in design. With no bugs or glitches and very little delay in movements, this really helped forget you're in the middle of Westfield shopping centre!
Overall, this was the best VR experience we have done. We have not seen anything quite like this. Using the VR technology with little to no flaws, immersive graphics and realistic effects in such a small space. Compared to other virtual reality experiences we have done up until this point, it puts them all to shame. Anybody who is a fan of virtual reality, Star Wars or the future of gaming and experiences, should get a ticket before this experience ends!
