The Walking Dead: The Ride - Thorpe Park Resort VIP Press Review 2018

On Thursday 29th of March, Thorpe Park Resort hosted the press preview event for the new attraction for 2018, The Walking Dead: The Ride! We were kindly invited down by the park to cover this new retheme of the original X:\ No Way Out ride along apart of this years park wide theme "The Year Of The Walking Dead".

The Walking Dead is a popular post-apocalyptic horror TV series currently on it's 8th season. The Walking Dead has many key characters and scenes through it's many seasons. Thorpe Park showed a selection of the latest sets in The Walking Dead Living Nightmare horror maze during Halloween. This was expected to continue with The Walking Dead: The Ride.

Before you reached the queue line, you could see that they have featured the Alexandria Safe Zone Watchtower which has been seen since Season 5 up until this current season. This has now been formed as the entrance and is a stunning themed piece to introduce the start of the new post-apocalyptic experience. Also featured in the queue line, you can find other signs mentioning about heading to the safe zone.

Without spoiling the new experience, we won't be going into too much detail about what happens inside the safe zone. However, you now experience a pre-show before entering the ride which explains more about what is going on. Which really sets the scene before boarding the ride with it's destructive themeing as soon as the experience begins. This follows all the way through until you step back outside, keeping it very immersive and realistic.

The ride itself has not changed layout but has included some perfect themeing to go along with the experience. Adding back the brake sections inside of the ride alongside a new photo opportunity on ride. Overall, the experience as a whole package is a great new addition to the park. Creating and developing a once broken story themed ride into a very story focused, themed experience with a perfect and current popular IP.

This attraction is the headline act in this years "The Year Of The Walking Dead" theme the park are promoting. Alongside The Walking Dead: The Ride, you have The Walking Dead Living Nightmare Extreme during May Half Term, Apocalypse Weekends from May 12th, a Zombie Hunt experience from the end of July through to September, Summer Lates on selected dates through the summer before ending the year with Fright Nights!
